Site preparation is the beginning of a long and expensive process regardless of what type of specific construction is needed. Following years of preparation by surveyors and engineers, the construction of a canal can commence.
There are 4 basic types of canals:
- Permanent canals
- Inundation canals
- Feeder or link canals
- Power canals
Draining, grubbing the land with machines such as scrapers, dredges, are used along the length of a canals. Canals can control water levels in a lock. The most common example of a canal is a shipping canals. The canal provides a lane for a boat or ship to cross large bodies of land while assisting in elevation or grading.
